Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead                           

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead will report to the Heavy Equipment Shop Manager and plays a crucial role in overseeing the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery used in government, military, law enforcement, and other industries, while also providing leadership and guidance to a team of mechanics. Here are some key responsibilities and duties typically associated with this role:

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

 Supervise Mechanics: Lead, supervise and mentor a team of mechanics, ensuring they follow proper procedures and safety protocols.

  1. Diagnose and Repair: Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment.
  2. Maintenance Scheduling: Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure all equipment is serviced regularly.
  3. Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and standards.
  4. Training and Development: Train and mentor mechanics, helping them improve their skills and knowledge.
  5. Inventory Management: Manage inventory of parts and supplies, ensuring necessary items are available for repairs and maintenance.
  6. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  7. Field Repairs: Perform emergency repairs in the field as needed.
  8. Customer Communication: Communicate with project managers or clients to understand their equipment needs and provide updates on maintenance and repairs.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  1. Technical Expertise: Use of diagnostic and test equipment consisting of TMDE, technical manuals – to include Electronic Technical Manuals (IET’s) lifting devices – including bridge cranes, material handling equipment, hand tools, micrometers, gauges, and any other equipment required to properly trouble shoot equipment faults. In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Experience working on Bearcat, High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), Logistics
  2. Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR), 7-Ton Trucks (MTV), Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) and Medium Tactical Trailers preferred.
  3. Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and manage a team of mechanics.
  4. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage schedules, inventory, and records.
  5. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical issues efficiently.
  6. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff, clients, and vendors.
  7. Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in equipment maintenance.
  1. Tool Requirement: Must have own tools, Mechanics Tool Set.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Must be able to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. Work will require stooping, climbing, prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical and biological agents. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations, and published Company work rules. Work will generally be conducted in a shop environment; however, duties may involve the conduct of work in outdoor areas with potential exposure to extreme climate conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate degree or the completion of two years of study at an accredited institution of higher learning or technical/trade school preferred, or related experience; or Military MOS (DD Form 214 required).

Experience: Four years of progressively responsible work experience in maintenance, including one year of experience in operating heavy equipment; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licensing: Must have and be able to maintain a valid state driver’s license during employment. Class A or B CDL is preferred for the operation of all vehicles that meet state licensing requirements.

Clearance: Background check and drug screening will be administered.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI when/if required.
